All ROMs have similar control options.

In the main menu you can set the delay manually by pressing Up/Down (and Left/Right in new releases). And by pressing A you can set it back to AUTO.

In menu, holding B while shooting, you're suppressing game start. It is useful if you want to watch your TV lag.

To look or to change the delay after you started the game, just pause the game (press Start) and you'll see your current delay, which you can change with arrows.

RetroUSB AVS. If your Zapper doesn't fire at all, make sure you turn off Four Score feature and plug the gun into 2nd port.

Warning! If you see "SHOOT HERE" or "FIRE ME" caption, please, shoot right into it. This avoids auto calibration failure. Although your particular TV can update image not from the top to down, so I advice you to hold B and make few shots to see what part of your screen gives the smallest delay.

Warning! Due to principles of work of a light gun, it won't react to a game if before a shot it targets sunlighted room, reflected in a TV screen.

What is the IPS file for?

This is a patch file, which should be applied to the original ROM file (.nes), to make it work right. How to do it? Download this program, it can apply IPS patches onto original files. Its interface is self explainable.

Where can I get original ROM files? On the IPS download page you can see the name and CRC32 sum of an original ROM file. Use this information.
